CLIENT ALERT – U.S. to Lift COVID-19 Vaccine Mandates for Foreign Travellers Starting May 12

The White House announced on May 1, 2023 that, starting May 12, 2023, the U.S. will no longer require Covid-19 vaccination or proof of vaccination to be presented by foreign air travellers entering the U.S.

In news that will be of particular interest to Canadians, the Department of Homeland Security also issued a concurrent statement announcing that non-U.S. travellers entering the U.S. via land ports of entry and ferry terminals will no longer be required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 or to provide related proof of vaccination upon request.

The expiring vaccine requirements represent one of the final pandemic-related vaccine mandates, and the expiration is arriving months after Canada allowed its corresponding mandate for foreign travellers to expire on October 1, 2022.
